Walking the Overland Track With Photographer, Eddy Delorie.
Recently I completed a walk on part of the Overland Track in central Tasmania. Not only to enjoy the mild winter weather in Tasmania’s Highlands, but to collect reference material in the form of photos, sketches and colour studies for upcoming works.
I do many of my Tasmanian treks with photographer Eddy Delorie. As well as being a great mate and a blast to work with, he has an incredibly creative professional eye. You can see his stunning images of me on location scattered through my website.
We embarked on the 4 hour walk to the Overland Track with our 17 kilo packs via the Arm River Track which starts in the Mersey River Valley. This led us to the Pelion Hut where we stopped for the night before heading out the next day to the newly constructed sustainable and environmentally friendly Kia Ora Hut. We camped out here for a few days while I made sketches and colour studies before starting the long trek back - we even got some light snow on the higher areas!

If you’ve ever wanted to hike in Tasmania, I can absolutely recommend it. The landscape is just stunning! Check out the Tasmania Parks & Wildlife site here for some inspiration.
Eddy and I travel really well together, but usually he’s the first up at sunrise with puffer jacket on, out in the frost, below zero temperatures, setting up his tripod while I’m cursing the idea of getting out of a warm sleeping bag!
You can check out more of his brilliant work here on Instagram.
Looking forward to our next hike already…
